Festival of Sport - 2008

Over 75 OS competed in the seventh annual Festival of Sport on Sunday 7 September 2008. On a rather grey and damp afternoon matches took place in hockey, football and rugby.

The OS womens' hockey team was captained by Livy Ainsworth and won 3-1 against a very good school team. Congratulations to the OS for fielding a full team this year and thanks to Jerry Stanyard, one of the umpires, who is a current parent.

The hockey was followed by the mens' and womens' football matches. Two OS teams competed against each other in the mens' football. One team was comprised of 1998 leavers captained by Ben Reynolds which was beaten 3-1 by the 2001/2004 leavers team captained by Lucian Weston.

John Burger's girls' football team played leavers and Staff in a thrilling game capped by Helen Tebay's goal fired from twenty yards. The Staff and OS eventually came out 3-1 on top.

A game of seven-a-side touch rugby acted as the warm up for the final match of the day. A rugby team of recent 2008 leavers captained by Gavin Jackson played a team of older leavers from assorted years captained by Josh Pettitt. The older leavers won by 39-5 and the match was watched by a good crowd of spectators who had arrived during the afternoon.

The day finished with teas and we look forward to welcoming back even more OS for the Festival of Sport next year.
