Reception in New York - October 2008

A reception hosted by the Head, Mrs Katy Ricks was held in the Harvard Club in New York on Thursday 30 October.  This was the third reunion reception held in New York since 2004 and on each occasion the number of guests attending has increased.  About twenty alumni attended plus parents of current students and parents of former students.  Among the OS was one who joined the school in 1957 and another who left in 2008 and is now studying at Columbia University.

The purpose of the reception was to maintain contact with former students and to provide an update about the school's recent achievements and recent co-curricular activities.  The Development Director, John Walton, gave a presentation about the school's strategic development plan and in particular the current project, the performing arts centre due for completion in early 2010.

Reception at Lincoln's Inn - September 2008

A reception hosted by the Head, Mrs Katy Ricks, was held in the Old Hall, the Honourable Society of Lincoln's Inn on Tuesday 30 September 2008.  Old Hall was built in 1490, before Christopher Columbus sailed to America and sixty seven years after the school was founded.  It was a perfect venue for this event.

The purpose of the reception was to celebrate recent achievements of the school and our students, and to promote the next phase of the school's development plan, the construction of a Performing Arts Centre.  Following demolition of redundant buildings to create the space for this building work on site has now begun.

The Head welcomed the guests who included many donors to the Acorn Fund, parents, alumni and other friends of the school and spoke about recent highlights and achievements by our students.  The Development Director, John Walton, described the school's priority project - the Performing Arts Centre, and showed images of the Centre on plasma screens using a powerpoint presentation.  Also on display was a model to a scale of 1:100 of the Centre which attracted enormous interest.  The Development Director also introduced the architects for the project, the project managers and a representative of the main contractor.

During the evening musicians from Years 8 and 9 played in the Undercroft to welcome guests as they arrived which made a huge contribution to the enjoyment of the evening, and later one violinist played a solo in the Old Hall.
