Creativity Day 2010

Following last year’s success, the last Thursday of term, 1 July, was again designated a Creativity Day for Years 7 to 10.

Year 7 began with a Music workshop, for which the Marley Sports Hall was transformed into a soundscape. The pupils deciphered clues relating to a cacophony of sounds from 15 different sound sources, and then set about creating their own soundworlds from a given stimulus. The resulting performances, in small groups, demonstrated passion, concentration, humour, teamwork, and a great deal of imagination! After this they were given the choice of an art workshop or drama ‘trauma workshop’.

Year 8 enjoyed a trip to the Globe Theatre, while Year 9 took part in a Design project involving compressed air and rocketry. For Year 10 there was another creative catering session, in which the students tasted foods from all over the world, learning how our taste buds work and how smells and combinations of flavours contribute to our experience of eating. Year 10 students also experienced a taste of Theory of Knowledge and were able to sample some IB lessons in Economics, Classical Civilisation, Japanese, Mandarin, Philosophy, Psychology, Text & Performance and Italian.
