The comedy night, which took place on Friday 17 September, was a tremendous success and raised approximately £2300 for Lawrence’s Roundabout Well Appeal, a charity committed to providing fresh water for villages and schools in Africa.
Three comedians, Dom Holland, Hal Cuttenden and Matt Welcome, turned up to support the charity and perform. Much like Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow, Dom acted as the host and Hal and Matt both had an hour on stage. The atmosphere was incredible with adults and Sixth Formers laughing out loud for most of the show. Many people donated generous amounts of money and said what a wonderful evening it was.
Sevenoaks School’s Charity Action Group decided to support Lawrence’s Roundabout Well Appeal for this year’s fashion show, at which we raised £4000. Added to the £2300 raised at the comedy night, this will enable us to buy one well for a village in Africa. Villagers will be able to pump and store drinking water within easy walking distances of their homes. The unique factor of Lawrence’s Roundabouts is that the children themselves pump the water to the tap while playing on the roundabout. Sevenoaks will now have its own pump, named after the school.
Organised by Alison Maynard, Celia Duran and the Charity Action Group, this was the first comedy night at Sevenoaks School, and we hope that Charity Action Group next year can pull off one just as great.
