Chamber music concert

Following Sevenoaks School's success at last year’s Pro Corda festival, in which we were judged to be the outstanding school, this year the Music department spread the chamber music performances over three nights.

Involving some 75 performers from Year 7 right through to the Upper Sixth, the performances given were quite staggering. It is always lovely to see the youngsters having a chance and the five groups involving Lower School pupils can feel proud of the work they presented. It was terrific to hear a Year 7 cello trio of Maya Jelf, Amelia Irwin and Caragh Taylor playing Niso Ticciati’s Trio. This was followed by a double bass trio, Alison Gent’s flute group, Quorum, and an exquisite performance of Debussy’s 'La fille aux cheveux de lin' by Tiffany Griffiths.

At the top, the performance of the project was probably the Sixth Form quartet of Tabea Haas-Heger, Elspeth Newey, Georgina Gibb and Claire Macfadyen playing the Grieg quartet. Having played together their entire time at Sevenoaks, they now sound every bit a genuine quartet, working together as if they had one uniform heartbeat.

The performances of all the groups were outstanding and the players were a credit to themselves and to the teachers who have coached them.
