On Sunday 17 June, 137 intrepid Year 10 students embarked on their qualifying expedition to the South Downs in Sussex. Apprehensive about the weather, as the forecasts had listed everything from sun to lightning, they all walked about 30km over two days and were graced with mostly glorious sunshine. Each group had planned and prepared their route during the first part of this term and camped overnight either in Selmeston, Alfriston or Jevington, locations that we have used for many years and always provide a welcome rest from the day's activities.
The training they had received and the practice walk they took part in during March obviously had a valuable impact, as very few groups got badly lost and most arrived at their finish points at the expected times. All the staff involved and several members of the public commented on what a great group of individuals they were and we hope that many of them sign up for Silver in Year 11 and Gold in Year 12.
