On Thursday 2 December, Sevenoaks School may have been forced to close and may have been forced to cancel The Big Gig, but in true Sevenoaks spirit, the boarding community held its very own Big Gig.
Arranged by Charlotte Wickenden and Stacey Gramotneva, supported by Mr Gladstone and compered by the irrepressible Mr Coquelin, musicians from all the boarding houses offered up performances of their favourite pieces of popular music to an enthusiastic audience of well over 200. There was some beautiful singing from the likes of PG’s Violet Bennett and Zoe Brandon, whilst at the older end, Rebecca Hitchings delighted us all with Elton John’s ‘Your Song’. Accompanying pretty much everyone (or so it seemed) was CY Chan on the piano, Chris Ying on the drums and Jeremy Lam on the guitar. Tarish Trivedi’s semi-sung rapping was another notable highlight in this evening to warm everyone’s hearts on an evening when the temperatures reached minus 7°C and the snow finally stopped falling.
