About Sevenoaks School

Where and What We Are

Sevenoaks School (HMC) is a coeducational day and boarding school for pupils aged 11‑18. Founded in 1432, Sevenoaks provides academic excellence with a strong pastoral and co-curricular emphasis and a global dimension inspired by the International Baccalaureate. Half an hour from Central London and from Gatwick International Airport, it is situated on an attractive 100-acre campus adjoining Knole Park.

The Sunday Times recently ranked Sevenoaks as the Independent Secondary School of the Year, with superb GCSE and IB results, and we were described as 'outstanding' in the Ofsted Boarding inspection 2009.

Boarding and Day

There are about 1000 pupils in the school, including international students from over 40 countries around the world. Boarding is an important element in the school’s life and ethos. There are about 340 boarders and 640 day pupils in the school. Around half of the Sixth Form board.

Forward Thinking

Sevenoaks rightly has a reputation for exploring new ideas. We are the first all-IB school in England, and have taught the IB for over 30 years. Our two international boarding houses and our closeness to the Channel and international airports, have given the school a broad European and worldwide outlook.

The School Day

Sevenoaks is a six-day a week school. Lessons take place every morning from Monday to Saturday, and in the afternoon pupils are either in lessons or take part in sport and other activities. Every three weeks there is an exeat weekend, when there is no Saturday school. The day begins at 8.30, lessons end at 4.10, but many activities go on after school until supper time for boarders at 6.00 pm and later in the evening for music and drama.

More details about the school may be found on the school's page on the ISC website.
