A History of Music at Sevenoaks School is written by Peter Young, who taught music at Sevenoaks School for 36 years.

The book was inspired by Peter's investigation into John Longmire, the former Director of Music, and the state of the School's music pre and post the Longmire era.

Peter writes 'I hope that many former pupils, especially those connected with the musical life of the school, even if they search in vain for a mention of their own name, will enjoy this book. The writing of it provided me with a healthy corrective to the mistaken view that before the 1950s Sevenoaks had been a kind of 'Land ohne Musik'. The flourishing state of the school's music today stands in more of an honourable (if not always consistent) line of succession than many may realise'.
