The Prizes, with a value of £70,000 each, are awarded to outstanding scholars who have made a substantial and recognised contribution to their particular field of study, are recognised at an international level, and where the expectation is that their greatest achievement is yet to come.

Dr Morrison’s prize winning research is based on the history of the Russian empire in Central Asia during the 19th century and he is currently writing a book about the Russian conquest of the region.

Recognising how the history education he received at Sevenoaks School has influenced his career, Dr Morrison says ‘my love of History was fostered and developed by Ian Walker, who taught me for all five years I was at Sevenoaks, and by John Guyatt, who taught me in the sixth form. I owe a great deal to both of them’.

THE LEAGUE
The club will compete in an 11-a-side league on Saturdays around London and the South-East against Old Boys sides from many of the other leading public schools.

The team will be entering the Arthurian League, a competition between Old Boys teams of currently 35 leading independent schools across the South East such as Tonbridge, Eton, King’s Wimbledon and Haileybury.

The league runs annually from August-April with around 20 league games and a couple of cup matches (about 25 games per year). As this is a new team the place in the league structure would only come into effect in 2013/14. However, the team has already been entered into this year's Cup and will be playing their first ever game on the 19th January against Highgate Old Boys with a squad comprising leavers from as far back as '01 and as recent as '08. Win or lose, several friendlies against other league teams are being organised over the next few months.

THE SQUAD
The club is looking to get a squad of 30 OS together under the assumption that availability will fluctuate throughout the season. There is already interest from around 25 OS but they are looking to expand this and include as broad a spectrum of years as possible. There will always be plenty of games for everyone between friendlies, inter-squad friendlies and competitive fixtures.

THE NEXT STEP
An Old Sennockians Football Club is a great addition to the OS community and we encourage you to get involved!

If you are interested in finding out more - whether you see yourself playing every week or very infrequently due to other commitments - please email the following OS.
We last spoke to him in 2009, when he recalled his years at Sevenoaks during the 1930s.

Clive Dunn attended Sevenoaks School from 1929-36. His parents were both heavily involved in the theatre, and because they were constantly touring the country he was sent to the school as a boarder at the age of nine.

At Sevenoaks, he took part in boxing and rugby and acted in school plays. He began as the call boy for The Importance of Being Earnest in 1930 and went on to perform in The Aristocrat in 1931. The review in the school magazine, The Sennockian, noted: ‘As for Dunn, he appears to have the stage in him to his finger-tips, so to speak. A small beginning but a very good one; and we look forward to seeing him in many more plays.’

He went on to receive good reviews for parts in Richard of Bordeaux (1934) and Under the Red Robe (1935), and particularly remembered his role as the Court Page in St Joan (below, 1933).

He also took Royal Drawing Society exams, which perhaps set him on his way to his future as an amateur painter.

After leaving Sevenoaks, Clive went on to study drama at the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts in London.

Following our hugely popular Geography Photograph Competition in the summer, the Geography Calendar is now available for purchase.

Each photograph was taken by a member of our school community in places all around the world from Antarctica to Knole Park. The photos were selected by a group of students from the school who worked with a professional designer in the production process. The calendars themselves have been printed by a local company on FSC certified paper using vegetable inks and are truly stunning in quality.

All profits from the sale of the calendar will go to Education for All, a charity which supports a school for impoverished girls in rural Morocco. The recent plight of schoolgirl Malala Yousufzai and her campaign to improve access to education for girls in such rural communities has highlighted just how crucial this can be for the development of a country, and how eager young girls are to attend school. As part of our IB geography trip we are able to visit this school at Easter and see how our money has helped. We have raised almost £3000 for the charity to date.

How to Order

Following their popularity last year, we anticipate the calendars selling out fast. They are £15 each for a single purchase or £12.50 each if more than one is purchased.

If you would like to order some, please email geogcalendar@sevenoaksschool.org by Friday 7 December 2012.

Payment can be made by cheque, payable to ‘Sennocke Services Ltd' and sent directly to the school, please mark the envelope for the attention of Mrs L Radford. Calendars will be sent out once the cheque has been received.

Alternatively, please email the above address to arrange collection from Claridge House if you would prefer.
