On Sunday 6 December, a crisp, chilly and blustery winter’s morning, seven L6 Sevenoaks Russianists travelled up to Victoria Park in London, to take part in a 10km race. To make this task even more challenging, all competitors were required to complete the distance dressed in full Santa outfits. Our pupils showed great spirit, humour and determination in the build up to the big day, and acquitted themselves excellently around the course. Our fastest runners finished in just under 50 minutes, and everyone was back within an hour and ten, which was a tremendous effort.
There are five more students of Russian (unable to participate on Sunday) who will also be completing the distance in a specially organised run in Sevenoaks before the end of term. In total, we are hoping to raise over £2000. This is the fourth year running that the Sixth Form Russianists have taken part in the Santa Run. The money raised goes to support the Russian village of Kitezh, a visionary social community consisting entirely of foster families, with whom we have developed a close relationship in recent years. Our Lower Sixth pupils will be visiting the village in April, as part of a two-week study and service trip to Russia. We hope that some of the money will allow a small group of orphans to visit Sevenoaks in June 2016.
